What is Apache and can it let me view my web pages the way they will show up on a hosted site?

I was also wondering if there is anything else I need to get in order to make it work properly? (do I need to get that program called Mysql for what ever it does?)

Apache is a web hosting service that is used to host a web site on your Local Machine, or your Personal PC. It is NOT a web browser.

If you are running Windows, use Internet Explorer to view a hosted site.

If you are running Unix or Linux, then you can use %26quot;Opera%26quot; as your web browser.

If you have Windows 2000 or windows XP, you can use %26quot;IIS%26quot; (Internet Information Service) for Web Hosting.

If you are running Unix or Linix, then Apache is great for web hosting and, last I checked, it was still free.

Mysql is a database application.

You won%26#039;t need Mysql unless you are going to build an interactive Web Site, or if you want to show results from a script file (PERL, ASPECT, JAVA) on your website.

Apache is NOT a web hosting service, it is a web server PROGRAM.

Other Replys:Apache is a HTTP (web) server project. I remember reading the name came from %26#039;A Patch Here%26#039;, meaning it had a patch (fix) here, and here, and here, etc.

If you know that the host of your web page / site is using Apache as their web server, as opposed to other web servers, you would find out if your web pages will show as on a hosted site.

As for needing the program MySql in order to display the pages. You will not need this, unless you want to have a database connected to the web page.

What all this means is:

If you have plain web pages, without a database, you do not need MYSql.
