Market to specific clients and serve that sector well! You can also find websites like elance.com and others that allow you to bid on open project requests.

You have to create the files for your site. Your home page needs to be called index.html. Do you have Dreamweaver, or do you know any html to type into Notepad? You can create your pages either way then upload them using Dreamweaver%26#039;s FTP or a third-party FTP program. You can search for free FTP programs on the internet that you can download and install.

I host my websites with webhosting4life.com. The shared hosting plan allows unlimited domains as long as you don%26#039;t reach the disk space. I believe the prices are very cheap compared to others that I have used before. Their control panel doesn%26#039;t look so good though, but its sufficient for running my websites. I have five websites running on the same shared hosting plan. If you really want a a dedicated web server, they have those plans too.

apache is the de facto web server, and it comes in both windows and linux flavors. however, it is just a web server, it is not a virtual machine/ web server- so you%26#039;d need to run a virtual machine and put apache on top of it. There are 3rd party apps to manage apache severs, but it by itself does not come with a pretty control panel- but is very well documented and reading the documentation on how it works will help with the reliability of your server.

note: putting it on a virtual machine will probably slow down the server a little, so if you have the hardware I%26#039;d put it in a box by itself and let it sit.

p.s. low cost? apache is FREE (and yes it is the de facto server, just because your not paying MS for something doesnt mean it%26#039;s not good)

Yahoo! promotes a system called DomainKeys to authenticate mail. The server sending mail to Yahoo! declares that the message is genuine by digitally signing the message and publishing the public key in its DNS records. Outside of that, it%26#039;s important to not look like spam. Check that the message content is not %26#039;spammy%26#039;. Other things you can try:

I do have Frontpage extensions enabled on the server. The site has page banners, link bars and a discussion forum and only the discussion forum works on the live site. So it seems that the Frontpage extensions do work, but not for the link bar and the page banner. When I open the live site (remotely) in Frontpage, it says in the location where the link bar should be something like: %26quot;add page to navigation structure to show linkbar%26quot; whereas it works perfectly well offline (locally) and I copied the entire file structure over to the web server. Do I have to re-create the navigation structure remotely? Is that normal? My ISP is 1and1 and I have Linux hosting.

Be sure to check your file permissions to make sure they are readable, as this is necessary to view the link bar and banner after upload.

Also, check your code/script to make sure the files aren%26#039;t being referenced by local address as it is highly unlikely that 1%26amp;1 uses the same file structure for storage as your local setup. If you are on Windows, (which I assume you are from Frontpage), make sure the pages you create don%26#039;t use %26quot;C:/address/filename.extension%26quot; or something similar. They will need to be %26quot;http://yoursite.com/filename.extension%26quot; or %26quot;/filename.extension%26quot; if the linkbar and banner are stored in the root web directory, or %26quot;/folder/filename.extension%26quot; if they are in an %26quot;images%26quot; folder or something similar.

If it%26#039;s a Unix server (and I%26#039;ve seen Unix servers with Frontpage extensions as an option), any references to files will be case sensitive. This does not apply on Windows servers.

So if you have a file called MyFile.html, on a windows machine (including your home computer) you can refer to it as %26quot;myfile.html%26quot; and still get to it, but on a Unix server you must call it %26quot;MyFile.html%26quot; or it will not be found!

First of all, what happens with a normal web page is the user%26#039;s browser sends in a web address, the web server sends back a static text file called %26quot;whatever.html%26quot; and the browser interprets and displays it.

With a dynamic web page, the browser sends the name of a data file (whatever.php, whatever.perl, whatever.asp, etc.), often with parameters attached (form data and hidden fields). The server sends that to the proper program, which processes the data (accessing databases or other files on the server as necessary) and sends back a text file in html format, which the browser then displays.

That is, all the work is being done on the server. (By the way, a %26quot;Web Host%26quot; is just a name for a %26quot;Web Server%26quot; which you are leasing space on.)

You need your site hosted on a server which supports the programming language and database you%26#039;re going to use. Each of these are software which has to be installed on the server, so there may be a charge (or it may be included as features in the bundle you pay for. Perl is often included, for example.)

Basically, if you%26#039;re using PHP or Perl you want a Linux/Unix server, if you%26#039;re using ASP, you want a Windows based server.

That depends a lot on your experience with or willingness to learn Linux. If you have either I would recommend it hands down. For one it is free, two you can more easily set up virtual sites (you said you wanted to run several) with just a copy paste in a config file etc.

If the sites grow more advanced you might need php or mysql integration. If you think you will need this I would set it up from the start, will be much easier.

Main advantage to a Linux box is less maintenance and will run forever barring hardware issues. Windows needs regular re-booting etc even with the server class OS.

Also if your box was originally designed for Win 98 you may have a hard time running 2003 on such old hardware where Linux will have few issues.

Ignore all this if you don%26#039;t know Linux nor want to go through the learning curve on it which some don%26#039;t.

If you use Access to create a database, and a web form for input is it easy to host it on a website?

I am just trying to find the easiest, idiot proof way of creating a webpage to view and enter data in one basic table.

This if for my husbands company and I really don%26#039;t want to get involved with the stupidity that is inevitably going to be involved in this. Too many people with no clue not knowing what they want and changing their mind every 5 minutes.

So if I can set it up so their website can just host an Access database and use Access design elements to create the webpage I can wash my hands of the whole thing.

But for some reason I just can%26#039;t seem to figure it out? Anyone have a good tutorial, or has done this before and can help me out?

Their webserver hosts a virtual Microsoft Server 2003, if that helps?

Its brainless but you should check with your hosting provider because they prob give you SQL for free. Even though its overkill for your application it won%26#039;t be apt to corrupt like Access and Access wasn%26#039;t developed for the web or multiple users.

It was developed to be part of the Office suite for personal use.

to practice with and then copy it straight to your SQL Server. Or just use it locally from one of your machines.

Access uses a watered down version of VB so if you can program in Access you%26#039;ll like this.

Your ISP probably gives you website space already. You%26#039;re going to have to ask them if you can attach your domain name to it.

Paypal will enable you to handle most of the end of your question, but if you want a true Merchant%26#039;s Account you%26#039;ll have to deal with a bank or other financial institution.

Issues publishing a web page in Publisher 2007 - can anyone help?

I%26#039;ve tried following the stock directions, but it%26#039;s not working. I have several sites hosted simply to get the template out on the web to use as the background for email blasts for a volunteer organization. I often receive error messages about the URL being too long, or the file location already being used. I%26#039;m hoping a kind soul will be able to walk me through it or can help me with some troubleshooting.

The problem is that Publisher is not a web development application. It%26#039;s more targeted at designing brochures and pamphlets and that sort of thing.

A URL would need to be so long to be too long that I really think this is a publisher error that you can%26#039;t really do much about.

I%26#039;m assume that since you are doing it for a volunteer organisation your resources (in terms of programs available for you to use and time you can afford to spend on it) are fairly low. But to be honest you need to try to transfer all your work into Frontpage, Dreamweaver or something similar and you should have a much better time.

By designing in publisher you will no doubt encounter a lot of problems in the code of the web page itself. I%26#039;ve saved Word documents in HTML format before and the coding is terrible! You will probably find that people not using Internet Explorer will have trouble seeing the page correctly, certain accessibility (i.e. disabled people) issues will arrise and who knows what else!

My advice is to try a one of the programs I already listed.

Got your mail, by host family I think you mean you want to stay as Paying Guest or PG as its called this is pretty common in many cities (dont know much about Bangalore though). Rents in major IT cities like Bangalore/Pune are pretty high. Many students/bachelors share rented apartments.

If you want to stay with a family PG is the best option, be careful as to which family you choose.
